2006 Annual Award Luncheon
David Haga
Foundation 2006 President, opened the Annual Award Luncheon with remarks calling everyone to remember “each day there is a need for access to justice. Our mission is not to respond to a holiday rallying cry or emergency crisis event. Rather, the Foundation strives to assure systems are in place keeping the doors of the courthouse equally open to all.”

News at the Foundation
"Democracy is an empty promise to those who find the doors to the courthouse locked." States Todd Lang
Todd Lang and Joe Kreamer, President-Elect for the Foundation, offered opening remarks at the Statewide Legal Service Conference co- hosted by the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education and the State Bar’s Legal Service Committee. Over 200 legal service and domestic violence shelter providers gathered for the two-day conference learning from experts in a variety of areas and networking with other professionals across the state.
2006 Arizona Top 50 Pro Bono Attorneys
Chief Justice Ruth McGregor presented the awards to the 2006 Arizona Top 50 Pro Bono Attorneys. These attorneys are all active volunteers of programs supported by the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education: the Brewster Center, Community Legal Services, DNA People’s Legal Services, Southern Arizona Legal Aid, the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project, and Lawforkids.org. Their selection has been based on such factors as the number of pro bono cases accepted and hours donated, indicators of overall commitment to pro bono work. Foundation Staffer Recognized with National Award
Joannie Collins was honored as Street Law Advocate of the Year at the Street Law Annual Awards Dinner at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C. Collins is Law Related Education program manager for the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education. The award recognizes developers, coordinators, or directors of Street Law programs in schools and community settings whose work has strengthened the Street Law mission and programs, and whose who advocacy work includes taking Street Law's mission and programs to new audiences, developing materials, and providing training or other important support.
Based in Silver Spring, Md., Street Law Inc. is an international organization whose mission is to provide practical, participatory education about law, democracy, and human rights. Sandra Day O'Conner, retired justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, presided over the awards dinner.
We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution 2006 Summer Institute
Arizona Supreme Court Vice-Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch was one of several distinguished scholars who instructed teachers from across Arizona at the "The Citizen and The Constitution" 2006 Summer Institute in Flagstaff this June
